Mid-Century Walnut and Rosewood Executive Desk by Edward Wormley for Dunbar

Edward J. Wormely for Dunbar executive desk in walnut with deeply sculpted inset rosewood drawer pulls, brass shoes, and removable woven cane privacy screen (ca. 1950s, Indiana, USA). Scarcely seen shorter version of the otherwise comparable 811 model, offering an abundance of storage options despite its relatively small footprint (60″ L).
Features two drawers on the left side (a multi-tiered bottom drawer below a shallow drawer and sliding writing surface with brass pull). The right side is composed of a companion sliding writing surface with brass pull and two shallow drawers flanked by a dedicated file drawer. Additionally, there is a lockable pencil drawer in the middle (key present).
The removable privacy/modesty screen is suspended between four brass spacers and shows light patches of cane loss. The walnut has been refinished and light wear remains (a couple of edge gouges, a surface scuff, and one veneer repair to one of the drawers’s edges). Overall, very good, vintage condition with wear commensurate with use/age.
Retains the Dunbar metal tag to top left drawer.

Mid-Century Walnut Filing Cabinet Unit / Chest of Drawers by Steelcase

Walnut filing cabinet / credenza manufactured by Steelcase (ca. 1950s, USA). Known for the incorporation of steel in their products, Steelcase pieces are extremely heavy and durable (not delicate and flimsy in the slightest) and were designed for every day rugged home and office use.
Composed of eight (four small, four large) walnut fronted and steel-lined drawers with beveled edge pulls. The absence of ornamental drawer pulls enhances the modernist aesthetic with clean lines and simple design.
The piece is fully refinished, though some surface scuffs and more considerably gouges to one profile remain (the deep gouges are only present on one side). Remains a stylish yet practical piece designed and built to last.
The overall dimensions are: H: 29.25″ x L: 70.75″ x D: 19.5″ (closed) / 37″ (with drawers open)

Mid-century Walnut Illuminated Credenza by Kipp Stewart for Drexel Declaration

1950s walnut credenza / sideboard designed by Kipp Stewart for Drexel’s “Declaration” line. Composed of two sets of hinged doors which open to reveal a single, removable shelf per side with a light that automatically turns on when the doors are opened (two lights in total: one / section). The left side additionally features two horizontal storage cubbies for books or records (all shelves, horizontal and vertical, can be removed).
The two top drawers provide additional storage: the left is open, the right is felted and separated into six sections by dividers, which can also be removed. Retains the original, lesser seen brass ball drawer pulls.
Very good, refinished condition, sans a couple of surface scuffs. There are two small factory holes already punctured through the unfinished back for cords.

Minimal, yet elegant circa 1950s American coffee table in walnut. Solid brass stretchers add an elegant detail to an otherwise modest form.
Walnut has been newly refinished; light scuffs remain, as shown. Brass is newly polished and shows only light wear.

Midcentury American Modern Walnut and Velvet Slipper Chairs

American armless slipper chairs composed of upholstered seats with a single, center button supported by walnut bases, circa 1950s. Reminiscent of a design by Jens Risom, but undocumented / unsigned. Newly reupholstered in velvet and foam has been replaced. Walnut bases have been refinished.
Measures: L 22.25″ x D 30″ x H 31″ x seat height 19.25″.

Midcentury American Modern Walnut Desk / Writing Table

1950s American desk crafted in walnut with brass pulls. Features a two-drawer ‘floating cabinet’ which provides a shallow top drawer with removable divider and a second sizable lower drawer / filing cabinet with a sliding plastic divider.
Finished on all sides.
Very nice, refinished condition; only minor were remains.

Midcentury American Modern Walnut Highboy / Chest of Drawers by Mel Smilow

Walnut 4-drawer chest designed in the 1950s by Mel Smilow for Smilow-Thielle. Walnut drawers are outlined by ebonized borders (the ‘frames’ of only the drawers themselves are ebonized, which better reveals the exquisite grain and color of the walnut by contrast). Inset tapered legs are built into the frame and strategically placed slightly inward to better support the chest / offer stability. Nice, refinished condition, only minor wear remains.
Retains the Smilow-Thielle label in the top drawer.
