“Femina el Fera” Figural Studio Stoneware Vase / Candleholder Signed Polk
$900.00Bulbous-form figural ceramic vase / candleholder. Marvelous textural elements: an unglazed slab with a hole for a candle or flowers was applied to an orb-shaped base with a woman’s face on the front and a beastly figure on the back (hence, the incised script on the front ‘Femina el Fera,” translating from Catalan to mean “Female Beast”). Intriguing piece, with nice patina / wear from age (namely craze lines, as shown).
Incised “Polk” signature present to the underside.

1940s Arts and Crafts Enamel on Copper Dish by Serge Nekrasoff
$150.00Russian-born artist, Serge Nekrassoff (1895-1995), relocated to Darien, CT in the 1930s where he primarily made enamel works using pewter. By the ’40s, with pewter in short-supply, he turned to copper for a base for his enamel art. This decorative bowl (circa late 1940s) features Nekrassoff’s signature solid color (green, in this example) with a white center and splatter pattern throughout. The decorative, beaded copper rim adds a nice contrast to the relatively simple design of the enamel pattern itself.
Inscribed ‘Nekrassoff’ signature present to the underside.

1940s Elizabeth Bensley Enamel and Zebrawood Decorative Box
$450.00This is a nice example of artist, Elizabeth Bensley’s enamel work from the late 1940s contrasting a primitive, crudely assembled box with refined, expert enamel decoration. Note that the box top does not stay open at an angle as the hinges may suggest; the heft of the top pulls the box over without weight of items within to counterbalance the lid. The enamel is in excellent, vintage condition, with no chips or crazing. The vibrant colors of the enamel, along with the unique texture of the wood itself combine to make this piece an exceptional decorative object that is additionally a practical storage compartment for jewelry / smaller items. There is a removable interior ‘shelf’ if open storage is preferred.
