First Edition Charles Pollack for Knoll 657 ‘Sling Chair’ in Black Leather

Iconic Charles Pollack for Knoll ‘657’ Sling Chair designed in 1960 and manufactured from 1964-1979. Early example, as evidenced by the ‘Knoll Associates Inc. 320 Park Avenue New York, NY’ tag (Knoll relocated to Fifth Avenue in 1970). The chair’s minimal, yet refined frame with exposed hardware is polished chrome steel tubing and cast aluminum arms and stretchers with a black-fused finish. Suspended on the frame is a shaped black hide leather back / seat sling finished with a capeskin seat pad for added comfort (pad stays in place on the sling via four, original velcro tabs) .
Original condition with wear consistent with age / use. The leather is beautifully aged and shows creasing / general wear. There is slight peeling to black finish of one of the arms and a considerable amount of wear / pitting to the chrome steel front and back bar. There is a split in the leather, only visible from the underside. Overall, a nicely aged, iconic piece in all original condition.
