Pair of French Deco Leather ‘Mustache’ Club Chairs

Robust, handsome pair of 1930s French club chairs sourced in the south of France in supple sheep hide leather with ‘mustache’ back and nailhead decoration to the back border.
Presented as ‘his and hers,’ given the slight proportional differences (one of the chairs is marginally shorter with a slightly different shape to the front legs, though the overall shape and pattern are identical).
Perfectly, naturally aged with beautiful patina and moderate wear consistent with age/use (scratches, most prominently to one of the armrests, and leather peeling throughout, as shown). Additionally, a patch of leather loss to one of the cushions was left untouched to reveal the horsehair stuffing within (not visible where the cushion is positioned on the seat).
The chairs show well, are void of any structural issues, and have been conservatively restored (fully cleaned and conditioned with light mending to the front of one of the cushions).
Cushions are signed by, presumably, the artists who had a hand in making the chairs (two signatures on the underside of one cushion, one to the other).
Measures:
Shorter chair: H 34.5″ x W 33″ x D 33″ x Seat Height 17″ / without cushion 11.5″
Taller chair: H 36″ x W 33″ x D 33″ x Seat Height 17.5″ / without cushion 11.75″.

Pair of French Deco Leather ‘Roll Back’ Club Chairs

The chairs show well, void of any structural issues, and have been fully cleaned and conditioned.
Measure: H 33″ x W 31″ x D 31″ x Seat Height 15″ / without cushion 10.5″.

Pair of Vintage French Leather ‘Mustache’ Club Chairs

Circa 1930s French club chairs with ‘mustache’ backs, originally sold as ‘his and hers,’ given the slight aesthetic and proportional differences (the chair with the seamed arms is slightly smaller, the leather differs in color, and the stud or nailhead decoration, although identical in pattern on the back, varies from chair to chair). Regardless of the differences, they function well as a pair and are being presented together.
Beautiful patina and moderate wear consistent with age or use, as shown. Velvet cushions are in good, vintage shape with slight sagging present. There are some tears to the leather (mostly near the feet, as shown), some soiling to the back cushion of the smaller chair, heavy arm wear or peeling in places, and general wear throughout. The leather is perfectly aged, and the chairs show well, void of any structural issues.

Measures: Chair with seams, slightly smaller H 32″ x SH 15.25″ x SW 20″ x SD 22.5″ x W 34.5″ x D 33″ x AH 23″
Chair without, slightly larger H 34″ x SH 16″ x SW 20″ x SD 23″ x W 35″ x D 34″ x AH 23.5″.

Set of Six Vintage Mario Bellini for Cassina CAB Chairs in Oxblood Leather

Complete set of six (two captain chairs model 413 and four side model 412) vintage “CAB” chairs designed by Mario Bellini for Cassina (ca. 1978, Italy).
Bellini was known for constructing seating with sturdy, solid ‘bones’ and then tautly wrapping luxurious upholstery around these frames to enhance their sculptural shapes. The “CAB” chairs are no exception to this signature design style.
Composed of leather fitted to an enameled steel frame and plastic seat. More specifically, the painstaking process consists of individually die-cutting saddle leather and, fourteen indeterminate steps later (all hand-procedural), the pieces are sewn together, their edges trimmed to achieve that taut, bespoke fit. Thoughtful, ingenious design marrying form and function.
These examples (a full set of six) are the desirable late 1970s oxblood leather versions. The supple saddle leather aided by its relation to the seat responds to movement, offering just enough give to maintain comfort. Very good, vintage condition, and structurally sound — the leather has been cleaned, conditioned, and buffed, and the plastic seat supports are all intact. Rich patina and leather scuffs remain on seats and arms, as shown.
Raised “Cassina” manufacturer branding present to all six chairs.
Side Chairs: H: 32.13″ x L: 18.38″ x D: 17″
Seat Height: 17.5″
Captains: H: 31.5″ x L: 23″ x D: 19″
Arm Height: 24.88″
Seat Height: 17.5″.
