Don Shepherd Blenko Blown Glass Vase
Striking and substantial blown glass vessel / vase designed in the late 1970s / early 1980s by Don Shepherd for Blenko. Although, depending on the angle, the piece appears clear, it actually has a tinge of blue.
Excellent, vintage shape, retaining the Blenko Handmade label.
Features a crude pontil on the underside (indicative of hand-blown glass, as opposed to mold blown, and commonly associated with Blenko’s works).
Diameter of the base: 9″
Diameter of the rim: 5.1″
H: 18.75″ x Diameter: 9″
Vintage Blown-Glass Owl Sculpture by Don Shepherd
1971 art glass owl sculpture by Don Shepherd for Jonynas & Shepherd Studio of Queens, NY. Since he was most noted for being the lead-designer for Blenko in the 1970s-1980s and a later designer for Herman Miller, Shepherd’s earlier studio pieces are less common.
This asymmetrical, stand-alone owl sculpture shows heavily textured detail of the figure itself ‘wrapped’ in a flat, clear glass border. With its chic, modernist design, this piece is a striking decorative object.
Measures: H: 7.25″ x W: 7.5″ x D: 1.5″
Initialed and dated.
