Early Oak Folding Grocery / Shopping Cart

$850.00

Charming oak collapsible shopping cart on caster wheels (ca. late 1930s/early 1940s, USA).
This early version, inspired by a folding chair, was developed by Sylvan Goldman in 1936 as a solution to the cumbersome shopping basket. It not only took up little room when collapsed and stacked, but also accommodated two baskets in two holders on the frame – one above and one below, allowing shoppers to buy more without struggling with carrying a heavy basket.
In a modern context, the uses are unlimited – this cart can be used for holding artist’s supplies/palettes, as a bar/tea/snack table, or a bathroom caddy with the addition of small trays.
Very good, vintage condition with wear/paint losses consistent with age and use. Remains a visually appealing work of folk art that is structurally sound and usable.
