Early high-back lounge chair with swivel / tilt function designed by Charles and Ray Eames and manufactured by Herman Miller as part of the Aluminum Group collection. Composed of black channelled vinyl seat with linen cushion headrest on four-point ‘contract’ base with original feet. Arm rests are clear-coated aluminum.
Branded Herman Miller ‘Patent Pending,’ suggesting that this was produced within the first two years of the design’s introduction (1958 or 1959).

Pair of Early Eames Aluminum Group Chairs for Herman Miller

Early pair of high-back lounge chairs with swivel / tilt function designed by Charles and Ray Eames and manufactured by Herman Miller as part of the Aluminum Group collection. Composed of black channelled vinyl seats with headrests on four-point ‘contract’ bases with original feet. The original clear-coat has been removed from the arms, revealing beautifully polished aluminum rests. There is a small separation / split at the bottom of one of the armrests. Arm rests can be removed entirely, as displayed in the last images. Branded HM ‘Patent Pending,’ suggesting that these were produced within the first two years of the design’s introduction (1958 or 1959). Without arms, the length is: 23″, with arms, it’s 26.5″.
