Bulbous-form figural ceramic vase / candleholder. Marvelous textural elements: an unglazed slab with a hole for a candle or flowers was applied to an orb-shaped base with a woman’s face on the front and a beastly figure on the back (hence, the incised script on the front ‘Femina el Fera,” translating from Catalan to mean “Female Beast”). Intriguing piece, with nice patina / wear from age (namely craze lines, as shown).
Incised “Polk” signature present to the underside.

An abstract hobby horse designed in 1964 by Gloria Caranica for Creative Playthings. Composed of two arched panels of birch plywood divided by a solid birch shaft and topped with a charming red knob. Impressive as both a children’s toy and modernist sculpture with its clean lines and graceful form.
Excellent, original condition with only minimal edge wear and light soiling to the orange paint, as shown.
Rarely seen in this fine of condition without restoration.

1933 Victorian style Folk Art soap box / keepsake box composed of an oval wooden lid and box in original green paint. Intricate wood-burning detail present (reminiscent of leather hand-tooling). Paint loss / soiling (particularly to the lid and central design). Remains a nice relic of the age in sound condition. There appears to be soap residue in the interior and a hand carved date of ‘1933’ present to the underside.

Unique and large commemorative gavel given to Fred G. Fraser as Chef de Chemin de Fer in 1938 by the Promenade Nationale General Committee in Los Angeles, CA (as indicated by the brass plaque). Impressive size: H 13″ x L 43″ x D 8″ (standard size gavel is used to illustrate scale). Wear consistent with age / use (patina, scuffs, spots of loss, etc.).

1940s Elizabeth Bensley Enamel and Zebrawood Decorative Box

This is a nice example of artist, Elizabeth Bensley’s enamel work from the late 1940s contrasting a primitive, crudely assembled box with refined, expert enamel decoration. Note that the box top does not stay open at an angle as the hinges may suggest; the heft of the top pulls the box over without weight of items within to counterbalance the lid. The enamel is in excellent, vintage condition, with no chips or crazing. The vibrant colors of the enamel, along with the unique texture of the wood itself combine to make this piece an exceptional decorative object that is additionally a practical storage compartment for jewelry / smaller items. There is a removable interior ‘shelf’ if open storage is preferred.

This is a nice example of artist, Elizabeth Bensley’s enamel work from the late 1940s displayed beautifully on a wooden box. Note that the box top does not stay open at an angle as the hinges may suggest; it folds over and lays flat on a surface, as one of the images indicates.
The enamel is in nice, vintage condition, with crazing from age to the left burgundy panel. The vibrant colors of the enamel, along with the details of the wood itself including thin-blade box joints, combine to make this piece an exceptional decorative object that is additionally a practical storage compartment for jewelry / smaller items.

This 10″ ‘Precision’ Globe was manufactured in the early 1950s by Replogle (Chicago, IL) and edited by cartographer, Gustav Brueckmann. Composed of paper gores over glass with a cast brass half-meridian and brown metal box base (intended for housing an atlas, which is not included). Wear commensurate with age and use (paper loss in places, patina to the brass, and some scuffs to the metal box), but remains in good, vintage condition.

1960s Replogle ‘Comprehensive’ Illuminated Globe on Walnut Base

1960s Replogle ‘Comprehensive’ globe composed of paper gores over plastic with a cast aluminum half-meridian all mounted to a walnut base equipped with two upright dividers for papers, letters, etc. A perfect desk accessory that additionally has a functional lighting mechanism (wiring is new, and lamp is operational).
Sans minor spots in places / light general wear, the globe is in very good, vintage condition. Walnut has been refinished; only minor wear (including a small spot, as shown) remains.
The globe itself measures 12″ in diameter.
The base alone is: D: 5.25″ x L: 12.5″
Including the base, the total measurements are: H 15″ x L 14″ x D 12″ (globe diameter).
