Danish Modern Bjorn Wiinblad for Rosenthal Charger / Serving Dish
$120.00Lovely example of Bjorn Wiinblad’s fantastical pieces for Rosenthal, featuring a corpulent figure among grapes welcoming a mythical character. Vibrant colors of lime green, blue, purple, and orange. Wiinblad explored the notion of good and evil, taking dark, often frightening subjects, and making them whimsical / comical by lightening expressions or revealing warm gestures, when the opposite is expected. This charger a great example of that style, with a smile on the figure’s face as she greets the ominous figure.
Signed ‘Bjorn Wiinblad ’73’ to the front of the dish and branded ‘Rosenthal’ to the back.
Few spots of fading to the design; overall, nice, vintage shape.

“I fell under the spell of the wheel, loving the physical beauty of the moves required to form clay and the sense of peace that came from throwing. Function has always been the thing that made it work for me. That and the people who take the pieces into their lives and make it all relevant. Should this lump of clay become a vessel and Should it dry without crack, Fire without flaw and Serve without breaking, Then may it claim For its maker A tiny bit of immortality.” – Deanna Nichols, 2008

Eve Rabinowe Enamel on Copper Square Dish
$95.00Unique Mid-Century Modern enamel on copper decorative dish by Eve Rabinowe, a respected enamelist active from 1961-1970 and an active member of the American Crafts Council.
This example, in vibrant blue, pink, white, and gold, is small in scale (4.75″ square), but bold in design.
The technique employed incorporates fusing powdered glass to metal (in this case, copper) to create a beautiful work of enamel art. The decoration, a smattering of blue circles / white streaks varying in size, almost has a jewel-like appearance with rich luster / sheen. The simple form and small size are contrasted with the rich colors and nice texture that the pattern introduces. Features a sgraffito technique, in which lines are ‘carved’ through the enamel in places to reveal the base color, giving those ‘treated’ sections almost a ‘tree bark’ texture / aesthetic.
A beautiful piece of enamel that can be used for display purposes or as a soap / keys / jewelry dish.
Dish is in very nice, vintage condition with edge wear and loss (some ‘wear’ is actually fire marks from the kiln, original to the piece; some corner wear is from use / age) .
Signed ‘Eve’ to the underside.
