Spanish Marquetry Taracea Inlaid Wooden Trinket Box

Lovely inlaid wooden jewelry / trinket hexagonal box handmade in Granada, Spain. The term ‘Taracea’ refers to the bringing together of different wood. This Spanish art-form, whose process involves the inlaying of smaller pieces of colored wood into a frame (box, in this case) and coating the entire pieces with lacquer, is still practiced in the southern region of the country today. This box is a nice late 20th century example.
