Pair of Vintage Modified Barcelona Chairs in Stainless Steel and Tweed

These vintage (circa late 1970s / early 1980s) Barcelona chairs were modified by our upholsterer for an interior designer for a short term project who requested that the loose cushions and straps (both seat and back) be replaced by a stationary, continuous back / seat cushion.
In order for the new cushions to be mounted to the stainless steel frames, screws (two on top, two on bottom) were employed to stabilize the cushions. No etched signature, as Knoll only branded the frames after 1996, and no tags, but these are undoubtedly vintage. However, price is indicative of the modification, which loses several of the original attributes. Frames have been cleaned, and linen tweed upholstery is new and plush. The color of the fabric is a light off-white / subtle oatmeal (not pure white, although may appear so in a few of the images). These are large in scale (not like the smaller copies) and are truly luxurious in person. Our skilled upholsterer managed to, in our opinion, enhance and improve upon the original design from a comfort standpoint, as the previous loose cushions and straps offered less support, comfort, and longevity. The stabilized cushion also cannot slide around in place.
