Mid-Century High-Back Birch and Mohair “Country Parson” Chairs by Maxwell Royal

Statuesque and elegant birch “Country Parson” chairs manufactured in the late 1950s/early 1960s by Maxwell Royal of Hickory, NC (though, often mis-attributed as Dunbar or Paolo Buffa).
Dramatic, deeply-carved, elongated horn extensions on the back and sinuous curved arm rests. Possessing design attributes of both American Provincial and Italian modernism, these versatile chairs works with a variety of styles.
Reupholstered in sage green mohair, and foam has been replaced.
Birch has been newly refinished, though light wear remains (few nicks / scuffs, as shown).
