Val Robbins Walnut Sculpture
This 1950s sculpture was manufactured by Val Robbins (1925-2009) at his Rimrock Pennsylvania studio and depicts a mother and son holding a brass hula hoop. The figures are hand-carved in American black walnut. This is a rare subject matter for Robbins whose work largely depicted animals. This suggests that this piece was quite personal to the artist. This is by far the most substantial example of his work that we have seen.
