Pair of Mahogany and Blue Mohair Slipper Chairs by Edward Wormley for Dunbar

$8,500.00

Early pair of model 5000 “Sophia” slipper chairs by Edward J. Wormley for Dunbar (ca. 1955, Indiana, USA).
Redone in a luxurious powder blue mohair with button tufted seats and backs mounted to sculptural mahogany bases (originally stained in the Dunbar #40 walnut stain finish) with rectangular block front feet and sharply splayed back legs.
From the original owner whose interior designer purchased dozens of pieces of Dunbar from the E. 63rd Manhattan showroom in 1955 (see last image of the sheet from the four-page receipt noting the chairs’ model and finish number, upholstery specifications, customizations, and price).
The chairs were reupholstered to mirror the customizations of the original pair.
Both chairs retain the green Dunbar medallion to the undersides.
Excellent, fully restored condition – upholstery/foam is new and mahogany has been refinished.
