Karnig Nalbandian ‘Blue Doll’ Oil on Canvas, 1953
Karnig Nalbandian (1916-1989) was a providence, RI born artist of Armenian descent, most widely regarded for his etchings (generally biblical in subject). Although, a very skilled painter, Nalbandian was less regarded in that medium.
‘Blue Doll’ has a folk art quality; the girl and her doll are crudely composed (a departure from his meticulously etched masterworks). Lovely color combination and charming subject.
Signed on the bottom right corner “Nalbandian ’58” and titled on the reverse with original price, signatures (x2), and artist’s address.
Unframed.
