John Risley ‘Duyan’ Rattan and Iron Sling Chair
This unique lounge chair was designed in 1953 by John Risley for Ficks Reed. A combination of braiding and weaving techniques were used to create the rattan ‘basket,’ which is anchored at both top and bottom by carved bamboo rails. This basket seat is supported by a painted iron frame. Although intended for outdoor use, covered outdoor use is advisable. Alternatively, the basket seat can be removed from the base and stored during inclement weather.
Condition Notes: Good. A few strands of rattan have been replaced to both replace minor loss and prevent future breaks (some of the precarious pieces were pro-actively switched out with matching replacements).
