Bertha Schaefer for Singer and Sons Italian Walnut Asymmetrical Desk

$9,500.00

Diminutive midcentury angled student desk in Italian walnut designed by Bertha Schaefer for M. Singer & Sons (Model 2162 – USA, ca. 1955).
Often co-attributed to Gio Ponti, who also designed for Singer & Sons, but no such claim has been confirmed.
Features a shallow pencil drawer to the right and three drawers to the left (two drawers and a bottom filing cabinet drawer).
Sleek design with sharp lines and incredible wood grain occupying a small footprint (H: 29″ x L: 53.5″ x D: 26″).
Retains the “M. Singer & Sons New York Chicago” manufacturer’s label to the top drawer.
Very good, conservatively refinished condition with a couple of small, light surface dings, scuffs to the pencil drawer, and edge wear to the three drawer bank, as shown.
Pencil drawer interior measurement: H: 2.5″ x L: 17.5″ x D: 12″
Top two drawers interior measurement: H: 4.75″ x L: 13.88″ x D: 15.75″
Filing cabinet interior measurement (excluding hardware): H: 10″ x L: 12.13″ x D: 16″.
