New Hope Style Carved Walnut Swivel Storage Cubby on Base

$2,200.00

Unique, New Hope style studio craft storage piece in solid walnut by the New York artist, William Perry, who additionally served as a professor of woodworking. Very unusual piece featuring a swiveling storage ‘cube’ divided into two sections by a fixed shelf. The base resembles a stool, with a circular platform and pyramidal form, with two small tiers / shelves for additional storage. Beautiful box joint detail throughout and vivid walnut grain. This is an early work of Perry (circa 1960s) and there are minor, execution flaws (namely, spots of separation to the wood along with minor, age-appropriate wear). There are a couple of light surface scuffs to the top, as pictured. Overall, an exceptionally unique piece in very nice, vintage condition from a lesser-known, but clearly masterful artist. Materials, style, and form are reminiscent of the designs of the New Hope School (Wharton Esherick, George Nakashima).

Pair of Italian Free-Standing Wall Units in Walnut on Ebonized Plinth Bases

$4,800.00

Stylish freestanding wall units boasting bookmatched walnut veneer (ca. early 1970s, Italy). Each comes with a black vinyl seat (more for decoration than practical use).
The first unit features a functional light with elegant pull on / off string above open storage. The central cabinet is composed of two sliding doors (one in reinforced tempered glass, the other in walnut) concealing single fixed shelf storage (one / side). Dramatic, carved, ebonized, block pulls complement both the black vinyl removable cushion and plinth base.
Below the cabinet nestle two shallow, dovetailed drawers above open storage. The bottom cabinet (which is a separate unit from the top) is composed of two hinged doors which drop down to reveal even more open storage.
The second unit features all of the same attributes as the first, sans the illumination function, and in replacement of the sliding doors, there is a secretary component with a locking drop down surface concealing open storage and a small cubby for letters / small items. Includes the original key for the secretary.
Compact pieces that remain highly functional without compromising style.
The walnut has been gently refinished; only minor scuffs remain. The unit with the sliding doors shows a prominent fissure through the back plywood, which is visible through the walnut veneer in the front, but easily concealed by items when stored on the top shelf (see images).
Measures: H: 65″ x L: 39.25″ x D: 23.5″ / 25″ (with the cushion in place on top of the bottom component) / 34.75″ (with the secretary surface dropped down).
