1973 Studio Ceramic “Pythia” Sculpture by Pollack
Pollack ceramic sculpture believed to depict “Pythia” / The Oracle of Delphi draped in a cape with a headscarf holding a crystal ball. Pythia was forcibly taken by Apollo, the Greek god of truth and prophecy (and more), and the crystal ball was a symbol of his strength. This depiction suggests that Pythia has reclaimed her power by seizing the ball from her captor.

1975 “Susan and the Elders” Oil on Canvas Signed M. Goldring
$800.00Susana and the Elders, a story from the Book of Daniel, has been interpreted by artists throughout the ages, most notably Rembrandt. The story centers around Susana, who has been violated by two elders, then tried for crimes she did not commit. Justice prevails in the end, but the protagonist suffers greatly in the interim.
This is a modern adaptation, titled simply ‘Susan and the Elders,’ giving the work a contemporary context.
The female figure in the work is a white stencil, lacking all interior definition, which perhaps symbolizes the lifelessness she is left with after the atrocities she suffered.
Visually striking, with bold colors and textures, which further enhance the prominence of the central figure.
Titled on the reverse and signed ‘M. Goldring 75’ to LL.
