1960s Transparent Astro Globe

Rare astro globe inspired by a Torica design and manufactured in Japan for the Lafayette Radio Corp. of New York in the late 1960s. This is the largest example made measuring 24″ height x 16″ diameter. The globe displays the conditions of motion of fixed stars, planets, and the sun and the moon (relative to the earth). Within the transparent celestial sphere is a terrestrial globe with red and yellow orbs suspended from wires (representing the sun and the moon). The objective in the globe’s design, besides the basic education of astronomy, was to create an interesting room accessory. This unique piece is both a high-design decorative item and a useful, instructional tool. Spots of peeling chrome to the top, minor scuffs to plastic. Overall, good, vintage condition.

1960s West German Huger “Sputnik” Barometer Weather Station

Huger of West Germany mounted sputnik globe multi-purpose weather station featuring temperature, barometer and relative hygrometer gauge. Plexiglass globe rotates and is removable from the base. Can be used as a tabletop decoration or mounted to a wall.
Brass accents are original / have not been polished and show minor wear / tarnish. The plexi globe is in nice, vintage condition with only minor scuffs. Overall, very nice, vintage condition.

1964 Madeline Jossem “City at Dusk” Framed Enamel on Copper Panel

1964 Madeline S. Jossem enamel on copper entitled “City at Dusk.” The work is an abstraction of a city scene at dusk with an attractive, bold color palette. Retains the original frame with black velvet trim.
Measures: H 11.5″ x D .75″ x L 14″
Jossem (born in Sarre-Union, France) was a holocaust survivor turned acclaimed painter, writer, sculptor and professor. There remains a scholarship in her name at the Art Institute of Chicago where she previously taught.
The French government awarded her ‘Le Chevalier dans lorde des Arts et Lettres’ in 1996 for her contribution to the arts.
Pencil signed, dated, and titled in verso: 1964 Madeline S. Jossem “City at Dusk” Enamel.

1970s American Studio Craft Blown Glass Lamp by Richard Harkness

Studio glass lamp with original shade made by renowned glass blower, Richard Harkness (New Hampshire, USA, circa 1970s). Harkness’s work can be seen in a number of prestigious galleries and museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Additionally, he was formerly a professor of glassblowing at Haystack Mountain School of Arts.
Harkness’s lamps are scarcely seen. This particular ‘orb’ art glass lamp features a bubble motif throughout. The teal color at the top fades into a pale blue / almost clear glass finish creating a nice contrast. The original shade is present, but shows some unraveling / loss to the weave at the top, as shown. The glass is free of defects, chips, cracks.

Harkness’s lamps are scarcely seen. This particular art glass lamp in the ‘lily pad’ pattern features a dense swirl motif throughout. The aqua-tone blown glass finial and floral shade are both original to the piece. The glass shows age-expected wear but is free of chips and cracks.

1970s Arthur Imhof Royal Geographic Society Commemorative Swiss World Clock

Impressive 1979 Swiss Imhof Royal Geographical Society World / Mantle commemorative annular clock, part of a limited four year production from 1979-82.
This example is an early production, as indicated by the 1979 date on the brass plaque.
Painted black metal terrestrial globe with gold outlines of countries and corresponding hours housed in a brass casing with silver dial ring (cercle tournant) / annular chapter ring with both Roman and Arabic numerals with minute track and brass pointer. Hexagonal brass columns connect casing to ebonized-wood, platform base. Manually operational by turning the winding crown in the back. (In order to function as a ‘clock,’ movement will require professional removal and cleaning.) Presently offered as a unique curiosity / decorative item.
Movement itself was designed by Arthur Imhof (Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland).
Medallion on underside reads, ‘1979 Royal Geographical Society World Clock.’
Commemorative plaque on base reads, ‘1979 Royal Geographical Society World Clock Made for David J. Lewis.’
Original condition with nice patina. The globe itself is perfect, free of scratches or loss. The brass is unpolished and shows tarnish / wear. (Brass can be polished upon request, but we opted to show it in original condition.)

1970s Brass Mirror with Tessellated Travertine Inlay

Impressive and large rectangular mirror composed of a patinated brass frame with an inlaid tessellated travertine with a subtle chevron pattern. Glass itself is clean, with no imperfections. Brass is patinated by design, and, as a result, is unevenly discolored and tarnished. There is some peeling and spotting to the brass, but the piece overall is in nice, vintage condition. In the style of Maitland-Smith, but unsigned.
