Large Mid-Century Modern Glazed Terracotta Planter with Saucer by Deanna Nichols

Impressive ceramic planter/vase with corresponding saucer by ceramicist, Deanna Nichols (b. 1942-2017, Missouri).
Holding a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute (1965) and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University in California (1967), Nichols was educated in painting and complex pottery making techniques at an academic level and later served as an educator at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA, and The Chrysler Museum School in Norfolk, VA.
The second floor of the new student center at Kansas City Art Institute is named for Nichols (see image).
1970s studio piece (works made between 1971-79 were stamped “Nichols Ferenbach”) composed of a terracotta vessel glazed in a gentle palette of tan/ochre/beige. The borders of both saucer and planter appear to adorned with bulbous beads, but those formations are in fact formed by sculpting and removing the bordering clay to reveal the unglazed terracotta within. A quality piece displaying attractive colors and geometric/textural elements.

Bronze cast elements with verdigris patina throughout from natural age and environmental weathering.
Bell is quite large (as demonstrated in the image with the can for scale), and fin is proportionately long.
Excellent, vintage condition with light wear consistent with age/slight bends to the fins (normal for this design).
Branded with the Arconsanti cypher.

Very nice, vintage condition with minor wear (one small patch of edge loss and a couple of white spots). Rosewood is in nice, refinished condition.
Retains the ‘Peter Pepper Products’ foil label.

Rectangular tray by Couroc of Monterey, California with an inlaid trio of barware pieces including a martini glass, tumbler or shot glass, and coupe (circa 1950s).
Composed of a black lacquer phenolic resin (water, burn, stain, and detergent resistant plastic) with inlaid shell, coral, and aluminum accents.
Each glass boats its unique palette – red, green, and yellow offer nice pops of colors, contrasting well with the black resin and silver aluminum details.
Early piece, unbranded.
Very good, vintage condition with only a couple of light scuffs present, as shown.

Light wear consistent with age/use present, as shown (one tiny spot of loss to one of the mallard’s faces along with a few, small scuffs). Overall, very good, vintage condition.

Large Dansk ‘Congo’ ice bucket in staved teak designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk. Iconic, sculptural early example with signature orange plastic interior liner.
Surface scratch along with one 7″ crack to the orange plastic lining (crack does not affect the presentation of the bucket, remains solely an interior flaw). Exterior wear is minor and consistent with age/use.
Listing is for the large bucket alone- image with this bucket and the standard size Dansk bucket is only for scale. Three standard size buckets are listed separately.
