Vintage 1920s Carved and Painted Chalkware King Kong Sculpture
$450.00Circa 1920s American painted chalkware “King Kong” figure.
These figurines date back as far as the 1800s and were often used as carnival prizes, hence the alternate name, ‘carnival chalk.”
Chalkware is composed of plaster of Paris or sculpted gypsum (a carving, as opposed to mold, in this example).
Since it is unfired, unlike a glaze, its colors are exposed (usually hand-painted watercolors), and the coatings offer little protection. Hence, these pieces are easy chipped / broken, given the fragile quality of materials. Wear is accepted and expected with pieces of this material.
In this case, there is only light, general wear/patina present with a few small spots of paint loss. Exceptional condition given its age and materials.

Soldered steel and brass with embossed fruit, floral, geometric and owl motifs with perforations throughout.
Eyes in green and red are semi-precious stone, which contrast beautifully with the perfectly patinated brass.

Vintage Deco Folk Art Painted Wood and Wheeling Ceramic Tile “Pegasus” Bookend

Gray painted wooden bookends with felted backs, masonite bottoms, and inset ceramic tiles by Wheeling Cushion of West Virginia depicting a pegasus adorned in battle regalia.
The Grecian tile aesthetic contrasts nicely with the rustic painted wooden frames.
Good, vintage condition with paint and edge losses to the backs, as shown. Retains the “Alrose Chemical Company” tag to the back of one of the bookends.

Vintage Esavian English Display Clock on Stand
$195.00Esavian was the trading brand name for the Educational Supply Association Ltd, a leading UK supplier of school books, school furniture and fixtures including laboratory equipment, windows and folding partitions. The most notable product manufactured by E.S.A. was the student ‘Compass’ chair designed by James Leonard in 1946 (pre-dating Jean Prouve’s design). This piece appears to be an instructional wooden model, likely manufactured for school children. However, this is a rare example, and could have been made solely for advertising purposes. (Manual function only; does not operate as a clock.)
