Diminutive stoneware footed vessel/bud vase by ceramicist, Deanna Nichols (b. 1942-2017, Missouri).
Holding a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute (1965) and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University in California (1967), Nichols was educated in painting and complex pottery making techniques at an academic level and later served as an educator at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA, and The Chrysler Museum School in Norfolk, VA.
The second floor of the new student center at Kansas City Art Institute is named for Nichols (see last image).
1970s studio piece (works made between 1971-79 were stamped “Nichols Ferenbach”) in attractive matte ochre glaze with beige speckled interior.

This studio piece from Nichols’ early, post-graduate era (late 1960s) features an attractive ochre with red and brown accents and a mottled white matte glazed interior.

This elegant, diminutive studio piece dates to the early 1990s, based on the signature “D. Nichols,” which she used during that era and features a bulbous-form vessel in thick charcoal/slate glaze, both metallic and matte, an unusual palette for Nichols who favored earth tones.

Serving / decorative bowl by Sascha Brastoff from his folksy ‘Rooftops’ series. Unique, oblong ‘dish’ supported by three, bulbous feet. Signed on both sides. Charming subject matter and nice color combination enhanced by the shimmer of the hand-applied gold accents (a signature Sascha B detail).
No issues to note; what looks like a chip under the signature is just glaze discoloration original to the piece.

Sculptural French Fat Lava Ceramic Table Lamp by Louis Giraud, Vallauris France

Ceramic table lamp produced by Louis Giraud for his eponymous studio, ‘Poterie d’Art Giraud’ (Vallauris, France, ca. early 1950s). Giraud’s sculptural works were often seen in thick lava glazes.
This piece is a fine example showcasing Giraud’s incorporation of a dense volcanic glaze, referencing the incrustations left by mollusks. Unique three-vessel organic-form in appealing, neutral palette.
Incised signature present: “Giraud Vallauris.”
There are no losses to the ceramic base; there is only light edge wear to the shade (a later addition).
Currently wired for European use; will be presented newly re-wired for US use, if required.
