Vintage Folk Art Carved and Painted Pine Crow Decoy Sculpture by Michael Zitka
$350.00
Folk Art crow sculpture or decoy made in 1990 by Washington artist, Michael Zitka (b. 1951, Tacoma, WA).
Composed of carved pine, cut out using a band saw and then laminated using weatherproof glue. Then, a die grinder is employed for shaping and a file for the finishing touches leaving a realistic, rough texture. The legs are made of 12-gauge wire and soldered at the base of the foot. Finally, the bird is painted with a primer and finished with exterior latex house paint.
This example features tack-backed eyes, a detail only present in Zitka’s crow decoys.
Zitka, whose love of both birds (particularly crows, having had a pet one as a child) and Folk Art fused together to create these charming outsider art sculptures.
Artist signed and dated to the reverse.
Very good, vintage condition with light patina/wear as shown (namely, some light spotting).
H: 5.75″ x L: 13.5″ x D: 3.75″
Listing is for the crow alone – video shows two other examples available separately.
