Vintage lidded serving bowl/ice bucket in attractive yellow melamine/plastic by Massimo Vignelli for Heller from the original Hellerware system of stacking dishes (ca. early 1970s, USA).
Reminiscent of a lego with its distinctive dual recessed knob handles on the lid, adding a geometric and textural element to the piece.
This line of stackable dinnerware won the Compasso d’Oro for good design in 1964 and is featured in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art. Further, in 2003, Massimo and Lella Vignelli received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.
Very good, vintage condition with light scuffs to the interior, as shown.
