Large Vintage Enamel on Copper Sgraffito Peacock Decorative Plate by Arpad Rosti

$350.00

Enamel on copper decorative plate with central peacock/bird figure by renowned enamel artist, Arpad Rosti (b. 1909, Yugoslavia, relocated to New York City in 1945, d. 1999).
Produced in collaboration with his wife, Ilona, Rosti’s enamel works of the 1950s embraced asymmetrical, curvilinear shapes, vivid colors and abstract patterns.
This example employees a sgraffito technique (scraping into the color to create boldly gestural lines and the central peacock subject).
The attractive, soft blues and pinks add a dramatic contrast to the black background. Further, a speckled cluster serves as an extension to the peacock’s crest to add subtle pops of color and another textural element.
Excellent, vintage condition with a few scuffs present, as shown, but no losses or significant wear.
