1940s Elizabeth Bensley Enamel and Zebrawood Decorative Box

$450.00

This is a nice example of artist, Elizabeth Bensley’s enamel work from the late 1940s contrasting a primitive, crudely assembled box with refined, expert enamel decoration. Note that the box top does not stay open at an angle as the hinges may suggest; the heft of the top pulls the box over without weight of items within to counterbalance the lid. The enamel is in excellent, vintage condition, with no chips or crazing. The vibrant colors of the enamel, along with the unique texture of the wood itself combine to make this piece an exceptional decorative object that is additionally a practical storage compartment for jewelry / smaller items. There is a removable interior ‘shelf’ if open storage is preferred.
